Muni Streetcar Hits Tour Bus

A San Francisco Municipal Railway historic streetcar was involved in a collision with a tour bus on Market Street Tuesday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 1:20 p.m. near Market and Steuart streets and involved an outbound streetcar on the F-Market & Wharves line, Muni spokesman Paul Rose said.

Other streetcars on the line were turning around at the Ferry Building and at Market and 11th streets as a result of the collision, Rose said.

Tour bus driver Ashok Rao, who works for Mercury Tours, has been with the company for 20 years. He said he was sitting on the bus, with the vehicle in park, when the streetcar hit. “It just crushed me. [The driver] comes out and says I'm sorry.”

The scene was cleared by about 2:30 p.m.
