Some San Francisco kindergarten and first grade students on Friday learned how to write letters to Santa Claus, U.S. Postal Service officials said.
Students at George Washington Carver Elementary School at 1360 Oakland Ave. got instructions from San Francisco Postmaster Abraham Cooper.
The event is part of the USPS's annual Operation Santa program, in which children write letters to Santa and others make those wishes come true.
The annual letter-writing operation is 106 years old and for many who want to make a child's wishes come true, the event has become a holiday tradition.
Families, businesses and other groups participated by responding to the letters to Santa.
For the kids, Cooper explained how the Postal Service helps Santa with all the letters he receives.
Letters from San Francisco children are delivered to Santa's mailbox at the Evans Street Post Office, postal service officials said.
