More than forty flights out of San Francisco International Airport have been canceled today to the northeast region of the U.S. in anticipation of Hurricane Irene, an airport spokesman said.
Most major airlines, including American, United, Continental, Delta, Virgin America, JetBlue and US Airways, have canceled flights today headed to various northeast airports including John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Baltimore Washington International Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport, according to spokesman Michael McCarron.
All three New York City airports, Kennedy, Newark and LaGuardia are scheduled to close all operations at 9 a.m. this morning, McCarron said.
McCarron advises all passengers, regardless of their destination and carrier, contact their airline for the most current flight information. Passengers should not come to the airport unless their carrier has indicated that their flight will depart as scheduled.
