Suspended Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith told reporters he had "done nothing wrong" after being released from San Francisco Police Department headquarters Thursday where he was detained overnight for public intoxication.
SFPD is investigating an overnight crash that injured two of their officers after an SUV carrying Smith crashed into an unmarked police car.
Smith's 25-year-old girlfriend was driving the SUV that collided with the car turning into the SFPD parking lot at Mission Bay around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, police said. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI, police said. Smith was detained by San Francisco police for public intoxication and held overnight so that he could sober up, according to SFPD. Reporters saw him leaving SFPD around 1:30 p.m. Thursday reportedly smelling of booze.
"I'm doing great. Nothing happened ... I had to go handle something and talk to somebody, I had talk to a friend who was locked up. if I did something I would be in jail right now. I didn't do anything," Smith told reporters when asked why he had been at the polcie station. "If you guys want to talk about me, let's make these stories a little bit better and put me in a better spot light. Stop making me seem like a badass criminal. I've never done anything, I've never hurt anybody, I'm not that type of person ... Get off my face now."
No charges have been filed against Smith, police said.
SFPD spokesperson Officer Reuca said that the crash took place as the police car was leaving the public safety building on 3rd street. Smith's car collided with the police car which was carrying three police officers. Two of the officers were taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries after the crash.
Smith is currently on suspension from the NFL and was scheduled to be reinstated in March if he remained compliant with the league's substance abuse policy, the NFL Network said.

Smith, who previously played on the San Francisco 49ers before joining the Raiders, was banished from the league as a repeat offender of the NFL's substance abuse policy on Nov. 15, 2015, and hasn't been with his team since. He missed the entire 2016 season, though the team hoped he would return to help their playoff push.
That didn't occur. Smith applied for reinstatement in October and was eligible for it on Nov. 17, but the NFL didn't rule on it and ultimately tabled one until March 2017.
Back in February, Smith was under investigation for a domestic incident, TMZ first reported.
The Raiders have not released any statements on whether Smith's latest brush with the law will impact his ability to return to the NFL.
Smith has not said anything publicly on social media about the incident. His last Facebook post was on Saturday. It shows him sitting with a dog on a bench, smiling. Multiple fans asked him when he was coming back to play. "Cannot wait to see you in action," one fan commented.
