SFPD Arrest Trio in Triple Shooting, Patrol Car Crash

A San Francisco police car crashed into a Mercedes in San Francisco early Tuesday morning following a triple shooting in the city's Mission district.

About 3:50 a.m., a shooter shot one person in the torso and two men in the legs at 16th Street and Rondel Place outside the Mission Street BART station, according to Officer Gorden Shyy. At least 10 shots were fired.

The person shot in the torso, identified as a 46-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries. The other victims, both in their 40s, have non life-threatening injuries.

Officers were trying to chase a possible suspect, Shyy said, and ended up crashing a patrol car into a Mercedes at Cameron and Nichols ways near South Basin in the neighboring Bayview district. Three people inside the car were arrested in connection with the triple shooting, and two guns were found inside the car, Shyy said.

The suspects arrested are identified as Larry Carr, 34, Jason Whittenburg, 30, and George Vickers, 33. All suspects are San Francisco residents, police said.

Each suspect was booked on multiple felonies, which include: attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an illegal firearm and evading police officers.

Police said preliminary interviews indicate the incident was an attempted robbery, that escalated to a shooting.
