Too-Fast, Too Furious in San Jose

SJ police shut down 20-car streetrace gathering

San Jose police issued several citations Wednesday night after discovering more than 20 cars gathered for street racing and sideshows, a police spokesman said Thursday.

The motorists had gathered in an industrial area near Ringwood and Murphy avenues around 11:30 p.m., police Officer Jermaine Thomas said.

Dozens of cars fled when officers arrived, but several drivers were unable to leave. Those drivers were cited for traffic violations and misdemeanor infractions, Thomas said.

Street racing and sideshows happen occasionally in the city but are not common, Thomas said.
