Livermore SWAT Arrests Man Who Threw Dog Off Balcony

A Chihauhau throwing leads to SWAT team arrest.

Elite Livermore police apprehended a man who threw a chihauhau dog off of a motel balcony and then pointed a gun at someone who took issue with the canine calamity, according to reports.

Officers responded to the Motel 6 in Livermore at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday to see about the man and his dog, according to the Contra Costa Times. Instead, they saw about an "hours-long standoff."

The Livermore SWAT team evacuated the motel, and closed nearby streets and businesses as the man, identified as Michael Hamby, barricaded himself in his room and refused to come out, the newspaper reported.

SWAT team members then entered his room, but he wasn't there, the newspaper stated. He was later found, five hours later, near the motel and was taken into custody.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony animal cruelty and is being held at Santa Rita Jail.

The chihauhau landed in a "grassy area" and is unharmed, the newspaper reported.
