San Bruno Discusses Pipeline Repair

Rebuilding is in full swing in San Bruno's Crestmoor neighborhood.

Rebuilding is in full swing in San Bruno's Crestmoor neighborhood.

The area was destroyed by a PG&E gas pipeline explosion in September 2010.

While crews work to bring people home there is still a pipeline running under this neighborhood.

For many blast survivors seeing it removed would be a relief.

The San Bruno City Council is now considering three options. Total removal, filling the pipe with concrete slurry or a combination of the two.

The timeframe ranges from more than four months to just a few weeks.

Kathy Derenzi has been fighting to have the pipe removed. She told the San Bruno City Council it's a very emotional issue to keep that pipe under our street not knowing it's there. But after hearing the presentation she says she is now supporting only partial removal because it will be less disruptive.

The Council decided to survey residents before making a final decision. PG&E says whatever the decision shareholders will cover the cost.
