Chic San Francisco Boutiques Rocked By Brazen Robberies

Being a luxury retailer is a high-risk occupation in San Francisco, where chic boutiques have been rocked by a series of ransackings committed by a dedicated group of thieves.

First, the ladies. Women known as the "Rainbow Girls," organized groups, so-called for their "bright attire and dyed hair," are known for strolling into the city's most-expensive stores, grabbing merchandise, and walking right out,according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Some of them have been apprehended but did jail terms of a few weeks, the newspaper reported.

Police said the most recent shoplifting spree began Nov. 7, when two $1,000 jackets were stolen from Neiman Marcus. That same day, 21 Burberry scarfs worth almost $10,000 were also snatched, the newspaper reported.

Armani, Gucci, Victoria's Secret. No purveyor of high-end consumer goods was safe, according to police.

On Nov. 26, another crew robbed luxury retailers but in a different way: Men drove trucks into the Chanel Boutique at Maiden Lane and nabbed six $40,000 handbags.
