Thousands of runners took part in the 38th annual San Francisco Full and Half Marathon on Sunday.

The race started at 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning at Embarcadero and headed west towards the Golden Gate Bridge.

For the first time ever, the 2015 race provided an opportunity for the runners to qualify for the Olympics. The top finishers have a chance to qualify for spot at the 2016 Oympic team trials.

The top finishers in Sunday's race were Chris Mocko and Anna Bretan. San Francisco resident Mocko ran the full marathon in two hours and 26 minutes. Bretan, from Berkeley, ran in two hours and 49 minutes, becoming the 2015 top women's finisher.

As runners finished, they started posting their results on social media through the Marathon's new mobile app. The San Francisco Marathon Race Weekend App, which is available to download on iPhone and Android devices, allows spectators to track runners live and access an interactive course map, live leaderboards, messaging, social sharing and push notifications, race officials said.
