Mayor London Breed and Community Groups to Distribute 5,000 Backpacks for New School Year

Over the next two weeks, San Francisco Mayor London Breed will join nonprofits and local organizations to distribute school supplies and more than 5,000 backpacks to students for the coming school year.

Mayor Breed and several organizations will host 29 backpack giveaways over the next two weeks. Many of the events will feature food, entertainment and provide families with information about health, employment and social services in their neighborhoods.

"We know that San Francisco is an expensive place to live, especially for families that are raising children. These backpack giveaways are one way we can help ease the financial burden of our families and make our City more equitable," Breed said in a statement.

Some of the groups that Mayor Breed is partnering with include the Salvation Army, United Playaz, Hope SF and the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco.
