San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Retires

John Haley, director of transit for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency since 2010, is retiring, the agency announced Friday.

Projects accomplished during Haley's tenure include replacing and expanding the Muni bus and train fleet; increasing Muni service by more than 10 percent; and growing Muni ridership, according to a news release from SFMTA.

"John has played a significant role in improving transit for San Francisco, including making Muni more reliable and transforming one of the oldest fleets in the nation to the newest," said Ed Reiskin, SFMTA director of transportation.

Haley's three decades in transportation have included stints as general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, deputy

executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and deputy general manager at BART.
