SF: No. 6 to Find Single Women

Other Bay Area Cities in Top 20

Guys: don't have a date for Valentine's Day? Don't fret. A new survey shows the Bay Area is one of the best places in the country to find a single lady.

Men's Health magazine ranks San Francisco sixth in the country in the study. The magazine based it's results on census data comparing the ratio of single men to single women, the percentage of women with college degrees...and, of no small importance in a study such as this, the percentage of women who work out.

Washington, D.C. took the top spot, followed by Portland, Maine; Boston, Seattle, and New York City. Oakland also squeezed into the top ten...at number nine. San Jose was farther down the list, checking in at number 20.

While the Bay Area had a pretty good showing...other parts of California didn't fare so well. Riverside came in at number 73, Fresno at 97, and Bakersfield came in at 99...trailed only by Las Vegas.

Men's Health magazine says that doesn't necessarily mean those cities have no single women. But, the authors point out that women tend to stay indoors if they can sense danger. Brightening up the block, by adding streetlights near the bars and public spaces, could improve the atmosphere.

So, Bakersfield, there's still hope.
