San Francisco Police Kill Robbery Suspect Near AT&T Park During Giants Game

San Francisco police killed one man and hurt another near AT&T Tuesday night near the end of the game Giants game against the Washington Nationals. A third robbery suspect was arrested.

Police did not say whether the two suspects involved had gone to the game, but did say in a statement that more officers were deployed to the area because of the high number of people attending the playoff game, where the Giants won, 3-2, forcing the San Francisco team to advance in the National League Championship to face the St. Louis Cardinals.

As police were patrolling the area near the park, investigators said the officers saw three men break into a Mercedes SUV in Jack London Alley about 9 p.m.

Then, they said the men got back into their own car.

When officers tried to confront the men, the driver reported pulled out a handgun and refused to put it down when he was told to do so by officers.

One officer reportedly fired several shots, hitting the driver and a man sitting in the back seat. The man in the passenger seat reportedly ran away, but he was caught.

The driver was taken to the hospital, where he died. The other suspect who was shot was not badly hurt and taken into custody.

Investigators said they recovered the driver’s handgun in the car, along with items that were reportedly taken from the SUV.

The officer who pulled the trigger is on standard administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
