San Francisco Police Officer Kills Dog That Attacked: PD

A San Francisco police officer was forced to open fire when a dog suddenly went on the attack, police said.

The shooting occurred at a home in the 1400 block of Oakdale Avenue about 6 p.m. Sunday when officers responded to a 911 call, police said.

As they approached the home, a dog attacked one officer, biting him several times. The officer shot and killed the animal, police said.

The officer was taken to the hospital with multiple dog bite wounds. Police did not say what prompted the 911 call.
