AMC’s Van Ness 14 Theater in San Francisco closed down Thursday night after screening it’s final film.
Theater management confirmed the closure to Hoodline but did not offer any reasons for why it was closing down.
In a statement Thursday, AMC’s director of corporate communication Ryan Noonan wrote: “I can confirm that AMC Van Ness 14 will close following the end of business today. We'd like to thank our guests for their patronage and invite them to continue enjoying the AMC experience at AMC Metreon 16 and AMC Kabuki 8."
The theater, which is a short walk from San Francisco City Hall, opened at 1000 Van Ness Ave in 1998 at a former Cadillac dealership as AMC’s flagship outlet in San Francisco, Hoodline reported.
In 2017 the theater was hit with bed bug allegations. On Yelp, some reviewers have criticized the theater for not having enough concessions, lack of modern seats and broken escalators.
But at least one person who went to watch a movie on the last day wants to see the space continued as a movie theater: “San Francisco should not lose this one-of-a-kind venue,” Ted W. wrote on Yelp.
Hoodline reported that another theater owner may be leasing the former AMC 14 space.

The Landmark Opera Theater, which is located near AMC 14 and shows indie and foreign films, may also be facing closure and redevelopment.
