San Francisco's Ferry Building Lights Up on 100th Anniversary of World Fair

San Francisco’s Ferry Building is all dressed up on Tuesday, marking the 100th anniversary of the world’s fair.

Crews installed a lighted 1915 on the tower, the same way it looked a century ago to welcome visitors.

Later in the evening, Mayor Ed Lee and community leaders will hold a ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the Ferry Building to light the tower and kick off the centennial celebration.

The terminal's tower will light up with bulbs spelling out the year 1915 for nine months to celebrate the Panama-Pacific International Exposition's 100th anniversary, running from Mar. 3 to Dec. 4.

The duration of the light installation also reflects the amount of time the world fair was in San Francisco; the event ran from Feb. 20 to Dec. 4, 1915, according to historical site San Francisco Memories.

The Exposition's Centennial has a full calendar of events for the year throughout San Francisco, including exhibitions, film screenings, panel discussions and world music and dance performances.
