A major thoroughfare in San Jose will be closed for a majority of this year so crews can finish the Berryessa BART station.
Lundy Avenue is scheduled to be closed to motorists for the next nine months. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority on Monday began shutting down the road, closing the intersection of Lundy Avenue and Sierra Road.
The road closure sparked confusion among drivers who said they had difficulty driving through detours.
"It's terrible. I have to go around," driver Ben Dasalla said. "I don't know what's going on."
Several parts of the detours that run through residential streets are marked, but signs are not always clear.
"A little confusing, but I kinda know my way around," driver Elizabeth Perez said.
VTA officials are asking drivers for patience as the agency completes the first phase of the BART to San Jose project.

Officials said BART trains will eventually pass beneath the roadway on Lundy Avenue as the long-awaited railway makes its way to San Jose.
VTA is currently raising funds for the second phase of the project, which would bring BART trains to downtown San Jose.
