San Jose Elementary School Ordered to Shelter-in-Place During Police Investigation

Two suspects were arrested Tuesday after a person was threatened with a gun and San Jose police ordered students to shelter in place and later evacuate from their school in South San Jose near Almaden Expressway, a police spokeswoman said.

At about 11:35 a.m., police responded to a reported disturbance in which a suspect menaced a victim with a gun in the area of Little Orchard Street and Stone Avenue, police Sgt. Heather Randol said.

The two suspects in the alleged armed threat then fled in a vehicle and due to the proximity of the Rocketship Alma Academy elementary school about a quarter-mile to the north, police had students there stay inside the building, Randol said.

Police later evacuated the students from the school at pick up time and lifted the shelter in place, according to Randol.

A short time thereafter officers caught up with the suspects, who were holed up in a nearby residence and had the place surrounded until they finally surrendered, police said.

The two suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in connection with the alleged armed threat and the police investigation is ongoing, Randol said.

The victim in the incident suffered minor injuries in an altercation with one of the suspects, she said.
