San Jose Mom Struggles to Pay For Funeral of Teen Gang-Slaying Victim

A teen slain in a gang attack has not yet been buried.

There's been no arrests or suspects identified in the beating and shooting death of 16-year old Manuel Urzua last month.

There's also no money to pay for his funeral and burial.

Manuel's mother, Rina Urzua, needs about $5,000 to pay for her son's funeral -- which has "already been postponed because of lack of money," according to the San Jose Mercury News.

A service is scheduled for Friday but can only go on if $5,040 is found to pay for it, the newspaper reported.

Urzua was beaten and shot during a "gang attack" at around 6 p.m. June 19 in the 1600 block of Virginia Avenue in San Jose, the newspaper reported.

He died the next day,  becoming San Jose's 25th homicide victim, according to the newspaper.

Pleas for financial help have been issued to the public by both San Jose's acting police Chief Larry Esquivel and nonprofit group Mothers Against Murder, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper provides information for those willing to help financially:

"Anyone interested in contributing to Manuel's funeral can walk into a Wells Fargo Bank and make a donation to account No. 2630028260, payable to Mothers Against Murder for Urzua. The routing No. for electronic deposits is No. 121042882. Checks can also be mailed to Wells Fargo Bank, 100 Main St., Los Altos, CA 94022."
