San Jose Participates in National Drug Take-Back Day

Officers in San Jose worked with the Drug Enforcement Agency to collect expired or unwanted medications, as part of the National Drug Take-Back Day.

Officers were on-hand to take unwanted drugs off the street, no questions asked.

Officers said it helps cut back on prescription drug abuse and allows the drugs to be destroyed properly.

"It's set up through the DEA so all this is confidential, it's all bagged up," retired San Jose police officer Philippe Rebboah said. "It's brought to the police department and then statewide. It's put into a dispenser and it's all burned."

According to federal officials, last year's Bay Area event collected 18 tons of drugs.
