Man Struck, Killed in San Jose Hit-and-Run; Suspect Remains at Large

A man in San Jose died Monday after he was struck by a pickup truck driver who later ditched the scene following the collision, according to police.

The hit-and-run collision — San Jose's fourth deadly vehicle versus pedestrian collision of 2019 — happened around 6:20 a.m. in the area of Almaden Expressway and Camden Avenue, police said.

The victim was identified as 57-year-old Robinder Bhurji of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the driver of the red pickup truck was traveling northbound on Almaden Expressway when they struck the man, according to police. Four other vehicles also hit the man as he was down on the roadway.

The pickup truck driver stopped at first but later took off from the scene without leaving behind identification information, police said. The driver has yet to be identified or captured.

The man who was hit was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
