San Jose Skate, South Bay's Last Roller Skating Rink, Closing at End of Month

Roller skaters in the South Bay will get a chance to say goodbye to a childhood staple over the Memorial Day weekend.

San Jose Skate on Blossom Hill Road in South San Jose will hold its final events over the next few days.

The "So Long to Skate" concert series is a farewell to the South Bay's last roller skating rink.

The owners are also planning an official farewell ceremony on May 31.

The closure will leave the Silicon Valley Roller Girls, the local roller derby league, without a place to play.

The league’s vice president told the Mercury News they’re trying to raise $20,000 for a new space.

San Jose Skate has been known by many names over the years, including Aloha, Roxy's and Golden State Roller Palace.
