San Jose Police: Suspected Bank Thief Might Be Responsible For Other Robberies

Police say they have apprehended a suspect believed to be responsible for robbing a bank last month in San Jose.

William Kaufman, a 27-year-old San Jose resident, was arrested without incident at his home on Jan. 13, four days after he allegedly robbed the US Bank branch inside a Safeway store on Hamilton Avenue.

During the course of their follow up investigation, officers identified Kaufman as a suspect in two armed robberies at 7-Eleven stores that occurred on Jan. 9, the same date as the bank robbery.

Police believe that Kaufman may also be responsible for other robberies in the area, and are continuing to investigate that possibility.

They're asking anyone with information about these cases to call investigators at (408) 277-4166. Anonymous tips can be submitted online, or called into the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (408) 947-7867.
