San Jose Warehouse Fire Injures Dog, Damages Two Buildings

A four-alarm warehouse fire that broke out in San Jose Friday night injured a dog, destroyed hundreds of pallets and damaged two buildings, fire officials said today.

The fire, reported at 10:56 p.m., affected two warehouse buildings at 690 North King road and 1800 Dobbin Drive, according to San Jose Fire Capt. Reggie King.

It broke out among several hundred pallets stacked outside between the two buildings, King said.

The fire sent flames 20 to 30 feet above the rooftops of the building and caused several propane tanks stored nearby to explode, King said.

Both buildings sustained moderate exterior damage to concrete walls and one building sustained some damage to the roof. There was no interior damage from the fire but smoke and water entered the buildings, King said.

The fire was knocked down around midnight and under control at 2:24 a.m., King said.

There were no human injuries, but a dog on the property, possibly a guard dog, suffered some second-degree burns. The dog was taken to a vet for treatment, but King did not have an update on its condition.

The fire's cause is under investigation, King said.
