Victim's Son Arrested in San Leandro Homicide

Police are withholding the names of both men.

Police in San Leandro arrested the son of a man who was found stabbed to death inside the family’s apartment Friday morning, authorities said.

Officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Juana Avenue at 5:30 a.m. after a neighbor reported that he heard a male screaming for help, police said.

When officers arrived at the house a man who was covered in blood opened the door for them, according to police. Officers detained the man, searched for a victim and found another man inside who was suffering from fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man who opened the door for the officers was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held in custody at the San Leandro Police Department, according to police.

Police are withholding the names of both men.

The motive for the murder is still not known.

“It’s a very traumatic time,” Lt. Robert McManus said. “Not only for the officers that responded to this, because of what they had to encounter this morning, but the family members who have to suffer through this and try to make sense of why a son would kill his father."
