DA: Peninsula Man Attacked Poodle with Brick

Montano-Topete has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of animal cruelty and animal neglect.

A poodle near Redwood City made one too many unsupervised visits for the liking of a neighbor.

San Mateo County prosecutors are alleging that Marcos Montano-Topete, 32,  retaliated by bashing the dog, named Globsis, in the snout with a brick this spring. Following an emergency surgery, the dog was euthanized.

Montano-Topete has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of animal cruelty and animal neglect, stemming from the attack on March 26. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 9.

According to prosecutors, Montano-Topete had told Globsis’ owners the dog was not welcome on his property. It's unclear just how many time the poodle had overstayed its welcome.

After attacking the dog, prosecutors said he informed a 16-year-old neighbor girl of the dog’s whereabouts.

Montano-Topete is free on $100,00 bail.

A call to defense attorney Thomas E. Deremigio was not immediately returned.
