San Mateo Police Looking for Man Who Solicited Teenager for Sex

San Mateo police are searching for a man who they say asked a teenage girl for sex Tuesday morning on North Claremont Street in San Mateo.

The victim, a 15-year-old San Mateo resident, told police she was standing on the sidewalk when the suspect approached her from behind and spoke to her in Spanish.

The teen refused the request and was able to leave the area.

San Mateo Police Department officers arrived at the scene of the incident around 8:20 a.m. and started looking for the suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his 40’s, about 5 feet 4 inches in height with a medium build, wearing a dark colored heavy jacket and jeans.

He was described as having dark hair and a heavy moustache.

Officers were unable to find the man but obtained video surveillance from a nearby store, confirming the man in the video was the suspect in this case.

Both the victim and the store owner told police that the suspect appeared to be heavily intoxicated, police said.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the San Mateo Police Department at (650)-522-7700.
