San Mateo Woman Interrupts Burglar, Gets Tied Up While Man Uses Her ATM Card

A woman who interrupted a midday burglary at her San Mateo home Monday was tied up and held in her home while the suspect used the woman's ATM card several times to retrieve cash, Sgt. David Norris said Tuesday.

Police say the man tied up the 66-year-old woman after she surprised him while he was burglarizing her Edinburgh Street home around noon Monday. The suspect was armed with a handgun.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man around 30 years old standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall with medium length hair with a wave at the end of it, according to Norris.

The woman, who received non-life-threatening injuries during the incident, was able to break free and call police.

Police are asking for the public's help in producing any information that might lead to the arrest of the suspect. Police have released a photo of the suspect using the victim's ATM card. He is wearing a beanie and a dark jacket zipped up and partially covering his face.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact San Mateo police at (650) 522-7700.
