Homes Damaged in San Rafael Brush Fire

Firefighters managed to keep a 12-acre grass and oak woodlands fire east of U.S. Highway 101 away from a mobile home park and homes on a hillside in San Rafael Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 12:15 p.m. burning a hillside in an area north of McCinnis Parkway, south of Professional Parkway and west of Yosemite Road, San Rafael Fire Chief Chris Gray said.

Several homes were damaged in the blaze.

The fire also threatened the south side of the Contempo Marin Mobile Home Park at the base of the hill on Yosemite Road. Firefighters are stationed at both locations to keep the flames at bay, Gray said.

"The wind has been pushing things around, but there's a lot of defensible space," Gray said.

"Firefighters are in six different places at once," he said.

One resident of the mobile home park was arrested for throwing an object at a firefighter, authorities said.
