San Ramon High School Wrestling Coach Arrested for Alleged Child Molestation

A wrestling coach at a San Ramon, California, high school has been arrested on suspicion of child molestation, police said Wednesday.

Police said Kevin Lopez, a 27-year-old San Ramon resident and wrestling coach at California High School, was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor.

A search warrant was served at Lopez' home after police were notified of a possible "inappropriate relationship" he allegedly had with a child more than 10 years younger, according to police.

Lopez was taken to county jail in Martinez, where he is being held on $750,000 bail.

Lopez not only works at California High School, located at 9870 Broadmoor Drive in San Ramon, but also as a youth group leader at San Ramon's New Life Church, according to police.

Police said both the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and church officials are cooperating with their investigation.

Lopez was hired as an assistant wrestling coach at the high school in 2005 and was promoted to head wrestling coach in 2012, school district spokesman Terry Koehne said.

A letter went out to parents in the district today informing them of the coach's arrest.

Koehne said the district is "obviously very disappointed in the allegations" and is fully cooperating with the police investigation.

Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to contact San Ramon police Detective Rob Ransom at rransom@sanramon.ca.gov.
