San Ramon Man Arrested on Suspicion of Sexually Assaulting Lyft Driver

The suspect was arrested and booked at the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez for alleged sexual battery and public intoxication.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a Lyft driver in San Ramon, police said.

The alleged assault was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when a female driver for ride-hailing app Lyft contacted police. The victim reported she had been sexually assaulted by a passenger, identified by police as San Ramon-resident Peter Edward Voss.

Police said during the brief Lyft ride, which started in San Ramon, Voss made several sexually suggestive comments toward the driver.

The victim told the suspect to stop, but Voss allegedly continued his comments.

"Unfortunately, his behavior became more agressive and ultimately he sexually assaulted her," San Ramon Police Lt. Denton Carlson said.

The driver then pulled into a shopping center parking lot and ordered Voss to get out of her vehicle, according to police. Once the suspect got out of her vehicle the victim called police.

Officers responding to the call located Voss while he was urinating in the shopping center parking lot.

Voss was arrested and booked at the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez for alleged sexual battery and public intoxication.

A woman who has known Voss for 16 years and did not want to be identified was shocked to hear of his arrest.

"It would be the last person in the world I would expect," she said.

Lyft said they are working with authorities and Voss has been permanently deactivated from accessing the service.
