Santa Clara County Sheriff's Deputies Save Lives of Elderly Saratoga Couple

Two Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies will be honored with three awards on Wednesday night after they saved the lives of an elderly Saratoga couple from a fire, some of which was captured on the video of their dashcam.

NBC Bay Area got an exclusive look of the  video of that fire on June 1 just before 1 a.m. on Maria Lane.

Deputies Steve Lera and Donald Weyhrauch were on patrol and forced their way into the home, according to sheriff’s spokesman Kurtis Stenderup.

The couple was awake but disoriented from the smoke billowing throughout the house and the deputies led them out to safety by kicking out the back patio railing to help lift them out.

The city of Saratoga will honor both deputies will a city commendation, the excellence employee award from Santa Clara County and the Medal of Valor from the sheriff’s office.
