Santa Clara Native Crowned Miss California 2016

First it was Miss North Bay 2016 and as of Saturday night, Jessa Carmack is the newly crowned Miss California 2016.

The 22-year-old Santa Clara native not only claimed the title, but also received a $20,000 scholarship. As a recent San Jose State graduate, Carmack is looking forward to using her scholarship to pay off her loans and help fund her graduate studies.

In an interview with the Fresno Bee, Carmack said, “I’m so incredibly grateful and proud to be representing the state of California and I cannot wait for my year to come.”

As the newly crowned Miss California, Carmack hopes to use her crown to reach out to people across the state and promote her platform, "Building a Healthy Future."

Despite her new title, Carmack is already mentally preparing herself for her next competition in September: Miss America.

“I know that these next months are going to be fast-paced and chaotic preparing for Miss America,” Carmack told the Fresno Bee. “Any chance I get, I want to thank my friends and family because without them I would be able to be where I am today.”
