Man Killed by Police Was Armed Rotten Robbie Employee: PD

A Rotten Robbie employee set a fire at one of the gas stations in Cupertino before going to another location in Santa Clara where he was shot and killed by Santa Clara police Saturday morning.

Police received multiple reports of a man who was "indiscriminately shooting" at a Rotten Robbie gas station's parking lot and store on Lafayette Street around 5:40 a.m., according to Santa Clara police Capt. Wahid Kazem.

The man was identified only as a 55-year-old San Jose resident.

Before the suspect arrived at the Santa Clara gas station, he had traveled to the Rotten Robbie’s gas station at 19030 Stevens Creek Blvd. in Cupertino, where he's an employee, and set a fire inside the cashier’s kiosk before leaving, police said.

Santa Clara County Fire Department crews extinguished the flames quickly, fire officials said. There were no injuries in the fire.

No other injuries were reported in the shooting.
