Santa Rosa High School Student Arrested After Stabbing Teacher With Pencil

A student stabbed his teacher with a pencil at a Santa Rosa high school Wednesday, according to police.

The stabbing was reported at 12:50 p.m. in a classroom at Midrose High School, a small alternative school on the Elsie Allen High School campus at 599 Bellevue Ave.

The incident prompted a lockdown of Elsie Allen while officers searched for the suspect and identified witnesses and anyone else who may have been involved.

Police said that the suspect, a 16-year-old boy, acted alone when he stabbed his 33-year-old teacher several times on the head, neck and arm with a pencil.

Another student tried to stop the attack and the teacher escaped and called for help. Other students and teachers came to help him as the attacker fled the school and into a nearby neighborhood, police said.

Police found him at a relative's house. He was taken into custody without incident.

The teacher was taken to a hospital to be treated for his stab wounds, which are not considered life-threatening, police said. No one else was injured.

Anyone with information about the attack has been asked to call Santa Rosa police at 707-543-3590.
