Santa Rosa Motorcyclist Killed After Bypassing Crossing Arms, Colliding With SMART Train

A motorcyclist was killed after colliding into a SMART train at a Santa Rosa intersection on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The collision was first reported at 3:55 p.m. at Guerneville Road east of North Dutton Avenue, police said.

Witnesses told police that the motorcyclist had been traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. As the motorcycle approached the crossing heading eastbound on Guerneville Road, traffic was stopped for the downed crossing arms, police said.

The motorcyclist went around the stopped traffic into the westbound lanes, never attempting to stop before colliding with one of the back cars of the train, per police.

Firefighters arrived at the scene as a fire started near where the victim ended up and the bottom of the train. According to police, the victim, only identified as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name wasn't released pending the notification of the next of kin.

None of the passengers on the train were injured.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Santa Rosa police Officer Jeff Adams at (707) 543-3636.
