Soggy Start to Bay Area Weekend, Winter Weather Advisory for Sierra Nevada

A widespread blanket of rain brought much-needed precipitation to the Bay Area Saturday before moving east to dump snow on the Sierra Nevada.

A winter weather advisory in and around Lake Tahoe is in effect through 1 p.m. Sunday. Higher peaks above 7,000 feet could receive six to 12 inches of snowfall.

Back in the Bay Area, Saturday will be cloudy with highs in the upper 50s. Showers are likely, and there will be a chance of thunderstorms. South winds will reach 10 to 20 mph.

Saturday night will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. Lows will range from the upper 40s to the mid 50s. West winds will reach 10 to 20 mph.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy before becoming sunny. There will be a chance of showers in the morning. Highs will be in the upper 50s. Northwest winds will reach 10 to 20 mph.
