Serial Palo Alto Auto Thief Apprehended

Stanford Shopping Center car thief nabbed, police say.

The thief is gone, though thefts may continue.

Palo Alto police believe they've nabbed the man responsible for a string of auto burglaries at Stanford Shopping Center: San Francisco resident Vernon Rayshaun Evans-Carmichael, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The 22-year-old man has been charged with 27 felony counts of grand theft and burglary for targeting rental cars at the mall and other "popular" Peninsula shopping centers.

It all began last summer, when he robbed cars of laptops and other electronics. He robbed more cars while out on bail -- but since his arrest, eight more cars were broken into in downtown Palo Alto.
