Service Dog Reported Stolen on BART

A dog that spent last night hob-nobbing with other canines and their dressed-up owners at the Bark and Wine Ball in San Francisco is now reported missing.

Kerrin Lanahan says she and her dog Archie were riding home on BART after the SPCA fundraiser Wednesday night.

Archie was in a carrier next to Lanahan and somewhere between San Francisco and San Bruno Lanahan said she dozed off.  When she woke up Archie and the carrier were gone.

Archie is a small Pomeranian. The carrier looks like a large handbag. It's possible the thief didn't know they were stealing animial, thinking it was a purse.

He is service animal that helps Lanahan with anxiety.

Lanahan said she reported the dog missing to BART police.

She spent Thursday putting up fliers hoping someone will recognize the dog.

The SPCA forwarded NBC Bay Area a copy of the flier.

It says if you see Archie call your local police department or 707-490-8860 or 650-450-3400.

The flier said a reward is being offered in the case.
