Sex Offender Arrested on Suspicion of Molesting Child

Mountain View police arrested a 57-year-old man last week on suspicion of molesting a child over several years, police said Thursday.

Sex registrant Mark Vandenburg of Mountain View was detained and brought to the police department early in the afternoon on May 22 and arrested after being interviewed by police.

Police received a report of the allegations against Vandenburg on May 20.

The person who made the allegations said Vandenburg may be having an affair with a relative and that the relationship may have started before the relative was an adult, police said.

Officers interviewed both Vandenburg and the female victim.

Police then arrested Vandenburg on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault on a child under 14 years old, multiple offenses of lewd acts on a minor, continuous sexual abuse and two offenses of sexual penetration with a foreign object, according to police.

Vandenburg is being held in the county jail. Police said they are concerned that there may be other victims because Vandenburg worked as a truck driver for Suburban Propane in San Jose.

Any other victims or anyone who knows of other victims is being asked to call Detective Marco Garcia at 650-903-6356.
