Single Car Crash Kills One, Injures Five Teenagers

Five teenagers were injured and one killed Tuesday evening when  the car they were riding in crashed into a walnut tree near Vacaville, a  California Highway Patrol Officer said.

The driver, an 18-year-old girl from Vacaville, was traveling east  at high speed on Vaca Valley Road when her Volkswagen Jetta went off the road  just before 8:40 p.m. near the intersection Pleasants Valley Road in  unincorporated Solano County, CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said.

The car was carrying six people, just one of whom was wearing a  seatbelt, and the driver died in the crash, Caggiano said. The five  passengers sustained injuries ranging from moderate to life threatening. One  17-year-old boy injured his right femur.

Caggiano said both the driver and front passenger were airlifted  to the trauma center at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where the  passenger was treated for major injuries.

The other passengers were taken to the Queen of the Valley Medical  Center in Napa, Caggiano said.
