A sinkhole that opened up near the Posey Tube between Oakland and Alameda will cause significant delays this week, Alameda Public Works announced Saturday afternoon.
The failure of an underground storm drain caused the sinkhole, according to the agency. Oakland Public Works is repairing the roadway.
One full lane will be closed to drivers leaving Alameda this week, the agency said.
AC Transit says several of its lines will be rerouted due to the repair work, and peak commute times will be congested.
Westbound lines 19, 20, W and O, and northbound lines 51A, 851 and 96 will have detours leaving Alameda beginning Monday morning.
The agency advised commuters to allow for extra time during the morning and evening while the repairs are completed.
The repair is "fast-tracked" but the agency will update drivers on the status of the sinkhole on Monday, Alameda Public Works said in a news release.
