Solano County Jail Inmate Found Hanged in Cell

The 22-year-old was found with bedding material wrapped around his neck.

A Solano County jail inmate was found hanged with bedding material in his cell early this morning, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

Kevin Gomez, 22, of Vacaville, was found unresponsive during a cell check around 2:25 a.m., Lt. Gary Faulkner said.

He was last seen alive about an hour earlier during a cell check and laundry exchange, Faulkner said. He was the only one in the cell, Faulkner said.

A ligature device made from bedding material was wrapped around his neck, Faulkner said.

Jail staff administered cardio pulmonary resuscitation but Gomez was pronounced dead at 2:50 a.m., Faulkner said.

An autopsy was to be performed by the Sacramento County coroner's office.

Vacaville police arrested Gomez Tuesday and he was being held in the jail for domestic violence, battery on a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer on duty, Faulkner said.

The sheriff's office is investigating the death.
