Sonoma County Man Critical After Vehicle Plunges Down Cliff Off Highway 1

CHP rescue helicopter responds, hoists victim from scene and takes him to hospital

A 55-year-old man suffered major injuries Sunday after his vehicle plunged 200-300 feet down a cliff off Highway 1 in Sonoma County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash, at about 2:30 p.m., prompted a multi-agency response, including a rescue helicopter from CHP-Santa Rosa. The exact location of the crash was not provided

The first units to the scene found the driver trapped inside the vehicle suffering from critical injuries, the CHP said. Once the man was extricated from the vehicle, the CHP helicopter hoisted him from the scene and transported him to Santa Rosa memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

The Santa Rosa CHP Office is investigating the crash.
