Man With Pellet Gun Detained at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose: PD

Multiple police vehicles responded to reports of a man with a gun Thursday morning at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose.

Police told NBC Bay Area that a man with a pellet gun had been detained at the hospital emergency room on Samaritan Drive. No injuries were reported, according to San Jose police.

The suspect walked into ER and claimed to have a gun, according to county health officials. The hospital was briefly placed on lockdown.

"Our emergency department has returned to full operation and is receiving patients," hospital spokesperson Christopher D. Brown said.

San Jose police said an employee, who happens to be a military veteran, at the hospital took down the suspect.

"He just walked up. He said put your hands up. The suspect sat down on a gurney and he walked up to him, grabbed the gun, threw it and tackled him to the ground," a SJPD officer said. "It was pretty brave."

The suspect will be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for brandishing a replica firearm, police said.
