South Bay Agency Distributing Meals, Gifts For the Holidays

Sacred Heart Community Services offers food boxes through Tuesday, needs gift donations

The holidays are in full swing at Sacred Heart Community Services in San Jose as it distributes food and gifts to families in need.

The charitable organization says the community rallied to fill holiday food boxes, which are being distributed through Tuesday.

In addition to staples such as canned goods, pasta and fresh produce, families also get to choose a Christmas turkey, ham or chicken.

On Wednesday, Sacred Heart will play Santa, opening up the gift room for parents to choose something for their children. But the agency is about 8,000 short of its goal of 18,600 gifts and is seeking donations.

"They still want to participate in the festiveness of this holiday season, and they still like to open up gifts as well," spokeswoman Laura Alvarez said about recipients of the gifts.

Those who would like to donate can find a wish list at the Sacred Heart website.

Donations are welcome through Thursday.
