South Bay Crash Victim Found Day After Car Overturns

A 63-year-old Milpitas woman was found dead in an overturnedvehicle in an embankment off of a roadway in an unincorporated area near Milpitas, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP dispatchers received a call around 5:50 p.m. Friday of a person found in an overturned Saturn in a ravine off of Calaveras Road near Milpitas, CHP Officer Ron Simmons said.

Investigators learned that the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had been involved in a crash 24 to 72 hours prior to her body being found, Simmons said.

Her name is being withheld until relatives are notified.

The woman had been traveling north on Calaveras Road north of Felter Road when, for unknown reasons, she failed to get around a curvature along the road and veered off of ht roadway and down a 250-foot embankment, the officer said.

Simmons said the car overturned, coming to rest on its roof in the ravine east of Calaveras Road. There appear to have been no witnesses to the crash, and it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident, the officer said.

The crash remains under investigation.
