Spare the Air Alert Issued in the Bay Area for Tuesday

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued a Spare the Air alert for Tuesday because of a forecast for an unhealthy level of smog in the area.

The alert, the 16th issued by the air district in 2019, is the result of forecasted temperatures in the 90s around the Bay Area that are expected to combine with offshore winds and vehicle exhaust to create elevated levels of smog, or ozone.

On Spare the Air days, the air district encourages people to find alternatives to driving alone, such as carpooling or taking public transit.

People can find out when a Spare the Air alert is in effect by registering for emails on their website or calling (800) HELP-AIR, downloading the Spare the Air smartphone app, or connecting with Spare the Air on Facebook or Twitter.
