Squatters in the Oakland Hills

12 Ways to Effortlessly Surprise Your Friends and Co-Workers

The picturesque landscape of the Oakland Hills has a surprise for people living off Thornhill.

A little red house with a for sale sign in front is littered with debris. It's a foreclosure selling for $519,000. The real estate agent says it was move in ready.

She says she checks the property weekly. But when she stopped by on April 29th she found people living there and the house was full of stuff. She called Oakland Police. Officers arrested 41 year old Lee Crago.

He was squatting with a pregnant woman and a young boy. Police say they found 2 van loads of stolen property inside.

They believe the property is linked to at least 10 burglaries in Oakland, Orinda, Berkeley, Piedmont and Kensington. Neighbors say they had no idea anything illegal was happening next door. They thought a new family had moved in.

Police are now working to find the rightful owners of the valuables. Crago is in jail.

Oakland police said people with information about the burglaries are asked to call the department's criminal investigation division at (510) 238-3326.
